Dania Shihab es una artista australiana nacida en Baghdad, fotógrafa y miembro de un colectivo de artistas en Barcelona llamado Detakon.
Actualmente vive y trabaja en Barcelona. Shihab cogió una cámara como una forma de liberar algo de su energía creativa. "La mayoría de las fotografías está tratando de capturar un poco de magia, un momento fugaz, un gesto irrepetible pero fluctúan entre alguien que quiere apoderarse de la espontaneidad y el humor y alguien que quiere crear una imagen", dice ella. El resultado es una cartera que ofrece una gran variedad de estilos y temas, cada uno brillante a su manera.
Esta es la entrevista que le hicieron en LeCool con motivo de su exposición/weblaunching en Cyborg Foundation el pasado viernes:
¿Cómo viniste a parar a Barcelona y qué es lo que hizo que te decidieras a vivir aquí?
Vine con la intención de viajar por el mundo, y una noche en un concierto en Barcelona conocí a mi novio. Yo no hablaba nada de castellano y él no hablaba nada de inglés, pero nos enamoramos. Y ahora, un año y medio después todavía sigo aquí.
¿De qué hablan tus fotografías?
De aquellos iconos, objetos y acontecimientos que son susceptibles de permanecer en la conciencia colectiva, los cuales reflejan una noción idealizada de la realidad y una decadente concepción del sentimentalismo. A veces trato de captar momentos mágicos y en otros momentos los creo.
¿En qué consiste el proyecto “One Day You Will Find Me” que presentarás el próximo 18 de enero en la Cyborg Foundation?
“One Day You Will Find Me” es un sitio web bilingüe, en el cual he entrevistado a casi 100 ilustradores, artistas de mixed media y fotógrafos, tanto emergentes como consolidados. Empecé el proyecto en agosto del 2012 porque tenía curiosidad sobre los artistas internacionales, sobre sus vidas, sus hábitos, sobre ellos en general, no sólo el simple hecho de ver las obras online.
¿Nos puedes desvelar algunos de los ilustradores que participan en el proyecto o es todo sorpresa?
Todo será publicado por la web “One Day You Will Find Me” el dia 18 enero para el inauguración. Se puede ver alguna idea en la página de facebook.
Un lugar de Barcelona en el que te gusta perderte…
En cualquier lugar donde se celebre alguna fiesta de Detakon, o de mis otros amigos músicos, o en Cafés El Magnífico, que tienen el mejor café en Barcelona.
¿Un sueño?
Que este proyecto acabe desembocando en el lanzamiento impreso de una revista de arte de periodicidad bianual, la cual contendría trabajos exclusivos de artistas internacionales, entrevistas y visitas a estudios. Me gustaría abrir una galería en los próximos años aquí.
¿Y un secreto?
En la actualidad soy doctora.
Dania Shihab is an Iraq-born photographer who now lives and works in Barcelona. After becoming exhausted working as a medical doctor, Shihab picked up a camera as a way of releasing some of her creative energy. "Most of the time photography for me is trying to capture a little bit of magic, a fleeting moment, an unrepeatable gesture but I fluctuate between someone who wants to seize spontaneity and humour and someone who wants to create an image," she says. The result is a portfolio featuring a huge variety of styles and subjects, each brilliant in their own way.
This is the interview LeCool did for her exhibition in Cyborg Foundation last Friday:
How did you come to Barcelona and what made you decide to live here?
I came with the intention of traveling the world, and one night at a concert in Barcelona I met my boyfriend. I did not speak spanish and he did not speak any English, but we fell in love. And now, a year and a half later I'm still here.
What do they talk your photos about?
Of those icons, objects and events that are likely to remain in the collective consciousness, which reflect an idealized notion of reality and a decadent conception of sentimentality. Sometimes I try to capture magical moments.
What is the project "One Day You Will Find Me" be presenting on 18 January in the Cyborg Foundation?
"One Day You Will Find Me" is a bilingual website, in which I have interviewed nearly 100 illustrators, mixed media artists and photographers, both emerging and consolidated. I started the project in August 2012 because I was curious about international artists about their lives, their habits, they generally do not just simply see the works online.
Can you explain some of the illustrators involved in the project or is it all a surprise?

Wherever you can celebrate a Detakon party, or Cafés El Magnifico, they have the best coffee in Barcelona.
A dream?
This project runs leading to the launch of a biannual art magazine, which contain exclusive works of international artists, interviews and studio visits. I'd like to open a gallery in the next few years here.
And a secret?
I'm a doctor.
